We woke up early and left the Marriott at about 8am. We drove about 10 minutes to the Animal Kingdom Lodge. We have never stayed here and was excited. We have a studio room with a Savanna view. Me being the huge animal lover that I am, I was more excited about watching the animals from my balcony than I was about visiting the theme parks.
This is a beautiful resort. We checked in and received our keys to the world cards but our room wasn't ready (we had our fingers crossed that it would be). No problem though, we were already wearing our bathing suits and since we drove, our luggage could just stay in the car.
We headed to Typhoon Lagoon where we bought our premium annual passes (thanks Phyllis and Chris for the referral discount). With our DVC and the referral discount, we saved about $517.00. YOOOHOOO!!! Anyway, it's now about 9am and the temp is in the 90's. The forcast for today is 96 degrees with a heat index of 110! The humidy is unbelieveable. You sweat just standing in the shade. We had lunch at Leaning Palms. Cade had the pizza and Brian and I had the grilled chicken wrap. All of the dining at the water parks are outside and the birds beg for fries or anything else you will give them. Brian wont let us feed them until we finish lunch. Well this decision must have ticked off the crows because I had one poo on my leg. While Brian and Cade cackled hilarously and I tried to clean myself with napkins, a crow got Brian on his shoulder. You know what they say about pay back. At least the bird poo never touched my skin, just my bathing suit. To say the least...lunch was over. We rode crush and gusher again and enjoyed the shark reef. The water was refreshing but we had to use 50+ sunblock.
We enjoyed Typhoon Lagoon until about 3pm. We have dinner reservations at the Biergarten at 5 so we had to leave. I will post Typhoon Lagoon pics soon (had to use a water camera). The resort called and told was our room was ready, # 5434. This is a GREAT ROOM. It is on the 5th floor so you can really see the savanna but we were near the elevator which made it easy to get to the pool. The room was nice.
We have never been big fans of the Animal Kingdom Lodge....I don't know why, this is our first time staying here. I guess because it is so far away from all of the other attactions, only Ak is close. Boy were we stupid. This is now one of our favorites. We have noticed that the resorts that aren't DVC only have friendlier service and better bus service. Must be because they have paying guests too. I'm hooked. Here are a few pics from our balcony.
We took quick showers and decided to take the bus to Epcot. When we got to the bus stop, there was the Epcot bus waiting. This never happens at SSR. Once we got to Epcot we went start to the Biergarten. We decided that we like this resturant but it is definately not a good summer choice. Brian did have a beer but he was to hot to enjoy it. We mainly ate salads (with herb dressing which was good), pretzel bread, and a few sausages. The food was good but it was too hot to eat.
On our way through England, we ran into Brian's girlfriend, Mary Poppins.
We stood in line for Test Track (60 minute wait) and when we got to the control room, they shut the ride down. No explaination. Just gave us fast passes for Fast Track to use later that night. Brian was not happy. We left and rode Spaceship Earth. We decided that we would get a frozen coke at the stand near fast track....but it was closed. It's only 7pm and it 110's degrees, what is Disney thinking. We tried the Coke Cooling station but it was closed too. We went to Norway and rode the Viking ride and found a stand selling smoothies. I would've taken pictures of the smoothies but it was too hot and they were gone before I could get the camera out. After this, we headed back to Test Track which was now working and used our fast passes. It was about 10:30 and we decided to head back to the room. I know that Florida is hot but this heat was ridiculous. We went swimming in the resort pool unil about 1am (the pool is open 24 hours). It was so hot that the pool was was like a bath but at least it was wet.
LOVE Mary Poppins! Test Track too! :)
