Topsey Turvey # 2

Since we've had such good luck with our tomatoes, we decide to plant a red and yellow bell pepper in a second Topsey Turvey. These are $4.99 a pound in the store.
We'll take weekly pictures to track the progress. We planted a green pepper, jalapeno pepper and banana pepper in pots to see which goes better, the TT or pots. Both have Miracle Grow soil.

Topsey Turvey

For all of you people who thought I was crazy buying the "as seen on TV" Topsey Turvey...look who's laughing now. We planted this tomato plant on April 25 and as of today, we have 6 tomatoes and about another 10 plus blooms. Eat your heart out!

Independent Cade

We are killing independent Cade. Brian will be home everyday this summer except Mondays and Wednesdays due to his school schedule. I have 3 weeks of summer off on vacation. That only leaves Cade about 3 weeks to be by himself and he is greatly disappointed. A Cade divided against himself can not stand!!!

The Summer of Cade

It's the summer of Cade. Schools finally out!

Marley and Me review

We watched Marley and Me last night. While you're watching it, have your handkerchief ready. Though partly a comedy about the joys and stresses of modern family life, "Marley and Me" is also a tearjerker.

The "Me" of the title is John Grogan, in real life a Philadelphia Inquirer columnist who often wrote about his wife and kids and Marley, the family's boisterous Labrador. Readers loved Marley's misadventures, so the columnist wrote a best-selling book, "Marley & Me: Life and Love With the World's Worst Dog," and several sequels.

The movie opens as the couple (Jenny played by Jennifer Anniston and John, played by Owen Wilson) flees snowy Michigan for Florida, where they work at competing papers and try to settle into married life. Uncertain about becoming a parent, John heeds the advice of his buddy and fellow reporter, Sebastian , to get a pet. How much trouble can a dog be?

The answer is soon obvious. The film splits into a portrait of Marley's hell-raising - he chases the UPS guy, steals a Thanksgiving turkey, etc. - and a look at the everyday tribulations of young married people. It's not all sweetness. John comes to envy Sebastian, a single guy whose career is advancing nicely; Jenny, exhausted as a stay-at-home mom, also has second thoughts.

Marley (named after the reggae singer) isn't bad, just very enthusiastic. Dog lovers will relish his antics; for others, there may be a few too many scenes where Marley races off with Grogan hanging on for dear life, or knocks over the garbage can, or chomps the sofa cushions.

As the Grogan family grows larger with the addition of three kids, Marley continues his antics. We see a softer side of Marley interacting with the kids. This film covers the 13 years of Marley's life. It is a must see for animal lovers and reminds us to enjoy our animals while they are here.

A Day in the Life...

We are still working on the reservations for our Disney trip in December. Looks like we will be at the Animal Kingdom Lodge to ring in the New Year. I don't know which park we will actually celebrate New Year's Eve in yet. Last year was Epcot and the fireworks were spectacular.

I think we have decided on Chinese food for dinner tonight. I want mongolian beef and I think Brian wants kung pao chicken. Of course Cade wants pizza.

Heard this song today on the radio and I think you might enjoy it. It's the cover of Michael Jackson's Billie Jean by Chris Cornell.

Picture of the day

Nice beach scene for a rainy Memorial Day weekend. Phuket Thailand.

Thanks to Netflix here is another movie we might have missed. The movie stars Ben Kingsley of Star Trek Next Generation and Woody Harrelson most notably from Cheers and Natural Born Killers. The movie follows a husband and wife as they travel through the former Soviet Union via railway. The couple befriend another couple who definetly change the couples travel plans.

Movie Rating: 3.2 out of 5

Not a must see movie but not one to avoid either.

The Wrestler

We watched the movie The Wrestler last night starring Mickey Rourke. I give it a 3.5 out of 5. However, if you like to see Marisa Tomei give lap dances you might rate this movie higher. This was a good movie but it did get slow in parts hence the 3.5 rating. Not a bad Friday night movie but not a must see either. Mickey Rourke is almost unrecognisable. This is definitely his comeback performance. There were several scenes where I just had to turn my head.

Cade's Awards Day

School is almost over and Awards Day was Friday. Cade took home several awards, all A honor roll, Certificate of Excellence in Gift Math, Certificate of Excellence in Gift Science (this is a 10th grade class) and All A honor roll for all three middle school years. We are so proud. Next year the real fun begins and it all starts counting toward his GPA. Hopefully he can keep up the good work!

Cade's Birthday at the Braves game

We went to the Braves game on May 16 to celebrate Cade's 14th birthday. What a horrible game. 12-0. The Diamondbacks kick our rear. Anyway, we had a great time. Cade and Brian ate TWO bags of peanuts. We had awesome seats in the Golden Moon Casino area on the first base line. We'll definitely go back again this summer. I love to see McCann. He's my all time favorite. I think Cade enjoyed watching the Braves girls. I guess that is a typical 14 year old boy. :0)
